José Manuel Figueira has concluded his role as Auckland United FC Premier Men’s Head Coach, bringing to an end a highly influential three-year period with the club.

José joined Auckland United in 2023 and quickly became a central figure within the Men’s programme, leading the First Team through some of the most successful and progressive seasons in the club’s history. His tenure was defined by strong leadership, a clear footballing identity, and a commitment to long-term development.

A Period of Growth and Success

During his time in charge, José guided Auckland United FC through a number of major milestones, including:

  • Leading the club to two National League Championship phases, consistently competing at the highest domestic level

  • Taking Auckland United to its first-ever Chatham Cup Final, a historic achievement for the club

  • Reaching 100 matches in charge during the 2025 season

  • Playing a key role in promoting and integrating Academy players into the Men’s First Team

  • Helping to establish and strengthen pathways to professional and international opportunities for both players and staff

These achievements reflect José’s ability to balance performance with development, while building a strong foundation for sustained success.

José’s commitment to developing young talent, fostering a high-performance environment, and raising standards across training and matchday preparation has left a lasting impact on the club.

Under his guidance, numerous players progressed through the Academy pathway into senior football, while others earned opportunities beyond the club — reinforcing Auckland United’s role as a genuine pathway for aspiring footballers.

“After careful reflection I have made the decision to step away from my role as Head Coach of Auckland United FC at the conclusion of this season.

It has been an incredible journey and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved together.

To the players, staff, board and the Auckland United community — thank you for your trust, commitment and support. It has been a privilege to lead this team.

While it’s the right time for me to move into a new chapter, I will always carry great memories of my time at this club.
